A Farewell to Arms is a novel written by Ernest Hemingway set through the Italian marketing campaign of World Warfare I. The guide, printed in 1929, is a first-person account of American Frederic Henry, serving as a Lieutenant (“Tenente”) within the ambulance corps of the Italian Military. The title is taken from a poem by Sixteenth-century English dramatist George Peele.

A Farewell to Arms focuses on a romance between Henry and a British nurse, Catherine Barkley, towards the backdrop of World Warfare I, cynical troopers, preventing and the displacement of populations. The publication of this, Hemingway’s bleakest novel, cemented his stature as a contemporary American author, grew to become his first best-seller, and is described because the premier American battle novel of World Warfare I. The novel was first tailored to movie in 1932.

Consider it or not, the place the novel was written is one among Key West’s finest saved secrets and techniques! Most would assume his extra well-known paid vacationer attraction house on Whitehead Road, they’d be flawed! Regardless that it’s posted on the surface alleyway wall (seen beneath) it’s not dealing with the street and is missed by nearly all.

Seen right here is Hemingway’s first Key West residence now known as Casa Antiqua, he lived on the second ground nook straight above the door. Hemingway’s first Key West house may be discovered at 314 Simonton Road on the correct hand aspect of the (now former) notorious Pelican Poop Shoppe… consider me, ALL locals know the Poop Shoppe.
