Rays come up quick towards Tigers, lose for seventh time in 10 video games – Orlando Sentinel

DETROIT — A lot for that momentum carrying over from Sunday’s inspiring win over the Twins.

The Rays didn’t have a lot going for them in Monday’s sequence opener towards the MLB-best Tigers, dropping 5-1.

The loss was the Rays’ seventh of their final 10 video games, dropping them to 49-42.

Starter Shane Baz put them in a 2-0 gap within the second by permitting a two-run homer to Javier Baez on an 0-2 pitch, and that was just about it.

The Rays received one run again within the third when Taylor Partitions drew a one-out stroll, went to second on a Danny Jansen single and scored on a two-out single by All-Star Jonathan Aranda.

However they misplaced an opportunity for extra when Tigers rightfielder Zach McKinstry made a powerful throw to 3rd that nabbed Jansen.

The Tigers added one other run off Baz within the fifth when Colt Keith led off with a double and scored on a two-out single by Riley Greene.

Baz ended up working six innings, permitting three runs on seven hits and two walks whereas placing out seven. His document dropped to 8-4 with a 4.34 ERA.

Keith and McKinstry homered off reliever Paul Gervase in a three-batter span within the seventh to make it 5-1.

The Rays managed simply 5 hits off right-hander Keider Montero, who was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to make the beginning, and three relievers.

The Rays received a slight scare within the eighth when third baseman Junior Caminero momentarily grabbed, then dropped a foul ball and crashed over the railing, by way of the netting into the stands. He was helped up, checked out and stayed within the recreation.
