Desert To The Sea

Chile Freeway 31

One hour to town of Copiapó:

Chile Freeway 31 contains 25 miles of oiled filth street.

The outskirts of Copiapó.

Northern Chile is far poorer than the south. And dirtier too.

Grocery purchasing, a automotive wash, a scorching gasoline station bathe in an impeccably clear rest room for one greenback, and a roadside salesman with grapes and honey.

We purchased 2.2 kilos of grapes for a buck twenty 5.

Freeway 5, the PanAmerican Freeway due northwest to the coast for one hour at 65 mph.

4:00 pm 75 levels sea stage with a cool Pacific breeze.

Caldera, Chile.

It’s out of season so touts have been pushing their eateries on us, the one vacationers round.

Beautiful sea air.

We selected the one not pushing us to eat there.

Fish stew for Konstantin and Julia. We shared  ceviche appetizer.

My fish got here battered like fish and chips cod which was a shock however scrumptious. Layne had crab stew.

Chips de jaiba wealthy and filling. Left overs for lunch.

Darkness falls earlier than 7 pm in Chile in winter so we raced for an iOverlander seaside spot.

In a month they plan to ship house to Seattle. In the meantime we had tea and cake by the ocean.

We are going to miss them. Alone by the ocean. What a privilege.
