One in all Key West’s FIRST brick buildings is the historic Harbor Home inbuilt 1885 from bricks introduced in from crusing ships. It first burnt down in 1886 housing the Financial institution Of Key West until it folded in 1891. A second financial institution tried its hand within the rebuilt constructing and it too failed just a few years later in 1898.

Oh sorry, the blogs title says burnt down twice… after the primary hearth gutted the constructing leaving solely the two foot thick partitions, some 98 years previous until one other hearth in 1984 devastated its occupants once more leaving ONLY the 2 foot thick partitions! At present it’s residence to memento outlets that promote EVERYTHING IN THE STORE FOR $5.00 says the Barker standing in entrance holding a cardboard signal.

The Harbor Home has endured “Hell’s Fires” twice over the course of its existence and although its two foot thick partitions might not stand endlessly, its spirit and status will exist eternally. There’s a big bronze plaque on the outer wall (pictured under) commemorating its lengthy surviving historical past for all to learn.

You’ll find this historic Harbor Home brick constructing on the nook of Wolfson Avenue & Entrance Avenue within the space of city referred to as Mallory Sq..
